About the Speakers:
Justice Briana Hardwick, Supreme Court of BC, Kelowna

Justice Briana Hardwick was appointed to the British Columbia Supreme Court on 7 February 2022. Justice Hardwick is resident in Kelowna and is currently the youngest member of the British Columbia Supreme Court judiciary. Prior to her appointment and following a stint as a law clerk for the BC Supreme Court, Justice Hardwick practiced substantially all of her career with the law firm of Rush Ihas Hardwick LLP in Kelowna, a firm she helped establish with her former partners, David M. Rush KC and Kenneth J. Ihas in 2007. Initially Justice Hardwick had a practice consisting of a wide variety of civil, commercial and family law litigation and arbitration matters. In or about 2012, Justice Hardwick took on the role of the head of the family law department at Rush Ihas Hardwick LLP and thereafter focused her practice exclusively on family law matters.

Vicky Law, West Coast LEAF, Vancouver
Vicky Law has joined West Coast LEAF on a secondment from Rise Women’s Legal Centre. Since the beginning of her legal career, Vicky has supported folks experiencing gender-based violence in the areas of family and immigration law. She collaborates with community members to improve access to justice and gender equality. When not working, Vicky likes to bake sourdough, play the piano, and collects more yarn than she can knit.

Bonnie Lepin, Bonnie T. Lepin Law Corp, Vancouver
Bonnie graduated from UBC Law School and was called to the bar in 1988. After articling at Bull Houser and Tupper, she worked at Clark Wilson. In 1993, Bonnie started Bonnie T. Lepin Law Corporation. From 1993 – 1994, she taught Legal Research and Writing at UBC Law School. For the first two decades of her career, she primarily did defence work for ICBC, but always maintained a plaintiff’s practice. Since 2010, she has had a plaintiff’s only practice. As both a former member of the Women’s Forum of the CBA, and as a TLABC member, she has mentored young women lawyers. Bonnie served as a member of the TLABC executive and then the TLABC board from 2012 to 2017. She wants to be known for her compassion and strong advocacy for her clients and her passion for justice. Bonnie was plaintiff’s counsel on Schuetze v. Pyper, 2021 BCSC 2209, a civil case decided by Justice Fleming which dealt with the claim of the intentional tort of battery and resulted in an award to Ms. Schuetze of just under $800,000. (There is a separate family law trial underway; Ms. Schuetze has different counsel for that matter.)
