OPERATIONS LEVEL COMMITTEES

Civil Litigation Committee
The Civil Litigation Committee identifies and/or reviews submissions from TLABC members on litigation TLABC may want to fund to advance or resist an appeal or seek intervenor status. The Committee provides necessary research and briefs to carry out that function, with an eye to making recommendations to the Board of Governors on matters it deems the Association should support.

Criminal Defence Committee
The Criminal Defence Committee is the liaison between the Association and the Criminal Bar. The Committee monitors issues of particular interest to TLABC’s criminal defence members and/or the public with regard to criminal justice, and brings to the attention of the Executive Committee and Board of Governors where appropriate. They provide advice and direction for education planning. The Committee liaises with courthouses, pre-trial centres, Legal Aid BC and other organizations whose operations and activities directly impact the criminal defence bar, and identify appropriate interventions for the consideration of TLABC’s litigation committee, and other activities as may be required.

Education Planning Committee
The Education Planning Committee assists in the monitoring, development, planning, and implementing of TLABC's education program. The Committee identifies education topics and ensures that quality trial practice programming is developed. The Committee ensures seminars reach financial goals, and evaluates the programs and modifies accordingly. Additionally, the Committee evaluates marketing strategies and makes recommendations. The Committee assists with membership recruitment as it pertains to education programs, and other activities as may be required

Family Law Committee
The Family Law Committee monitor issues of particular interest to TLABC’s family law members and/or the public with regard to family law justice, and brings to the attention of the Executive Committee and Board of Governors where appropriate. The Committee provides advice and direction for education programming. The Committee identifies appropriate interventions for the consideration of TLABC’s litigation committee, and other activities as may be required.

Membership Committee
The Membership Committee supports TLABC recruitment and retention strategies, and examines and develops membership benefits and services, and other activities as may be required.

New Lawyers Committee
The New Lawyers Committee is responsible for engaging members 5 years of call and under, articled and law students by providing input and support to the planning of the Trial By Fire No More series and the New Lawyers Retreat, and other appropriate activities.

PAC – Public Affairs Committee
TLABC’s PAC Committee, is responsible for conducting successful fundraising efforts that enable TLABC to stay equipped with the resources necessary for remaining vigilant on behalf of legal professionals and the public.

the Verdict – Editorial Board
Working with the Publisher, the Committee is responsible for setting the themes for each quarterly issue, identifying topics and sourcing potential writers, vetting and editing articles, and other activities as may be required.

Executive Committee
The Executive Committee provides oversight and leadership in periods between meetings of the full Board of Governors.

Finance Committee
The Finance Committee is responsible for overseeing the preparation of the fiscal year budget, the monitoring of revenue and expenses throughout the year to ensure the Association is on track financially. The Committee reviews and recommends approval of the annual audited financial statements. In addition, the Committee has oversight of TLABC's investment portfolio and ensures that the investment policy is executed approriately.

Governance Committee
The Governance Committee is responsible for the oversight of the Association's board operations and governance framework, including rules, bylaws, and related policies and procedures.

HR Committee
The HR Committee is responsible for the ongoing oversight, performance management, development and compensation of the Association's CEO.

Nominations Committee
The Nominations Committee is responsible for presenting a slate of officers to TLABC members to ensure the Association is governed with excellence and vision.The Committee makes recommendations to the Board of Governors regarding worthy candidates for TLABC's bench and bar awards.

CRT Committee
The CRT Committee is responsible for analysis and thought leadership regarding the CRT, MVA section with an eye to informing TLABC policy, learning needs/opportunities for Personal Injury members, content for the Association's social media channels and/or the Verdict.

The Government Relations Committee  is responsible for guiding a leading the organizations' advvocay efforts on selecet matters of policy with government, and for supporting the efforts of Association members to be politically active during provincial elections.
