OPERATIONS LEVEL COMMITTEES
Criminal Defence Committee
The Criminal Defence Committee is the liaison between the Association and the Criminal Bar. The Committee monitors issues of particular interest to TLABC’s criminal defence members and/or the public with regard to criminal justice, and brings to the attention of the Executive Committee and Board of Governors where appropriate. The Committee provides advice and direction for education planning. The Committee liaises with courthouses, pre-trial centres, Legal Aid BC and other organizations whose operations and activities directly impact the criminal defence bar, and identifies appropriate interventions for the consideration of TLABC’s litigation committee, and other activities as may be required.

Education Planning Committee
The Education Planning Committee supports the development of TLABC’s education program, with a primary focus on the annual Convention. The Committee identifies timely and high-quality trial practice topics, highlights emerging or under-served practice areas for potential webinar programs or education series, and actively promotes the association's education initiatives to maximize member engagement and participation.

Estate Litigation Committee
The Estate Litigation Committee monitors issues of particular interest to TLABC’s members and/or the public with regard to wills, estate and trust law, and brings to the attention of the Executive Committee and Board of Governors where appropriate. The Committee provides advice and direction for education programming. The Committee identifies appropriate interventions for the consideration of TLABC’s Litigation Committee, and other activities as may be required.

Family Law Committee
The Family Law Committee monitors issues of particular interest to TLABC’s family law members and/or the public with regard to family law justice, and brings to the attention of the Executive Committee and Board of Governors where appropriate. The Committee provides advice and direction for education programming. The Committee identifies appropriate interventions for the consideration of TLABC’s Litigation Committee, and other activities as may be required.

New Lawyers Planning Committee
The New Lawyers Planning Committee is responsible for engaging members 5 years of call and under, articled and law students by providing input and support to the planning of the Trial By Fire No More series and other appropriate activities.

the Verdict – Editorial Board
Working with the Publisher, the Committee is responsible for setting the themes for each quarterly issue, identifying topics and sourcing potential writers, vetting and editing articles, and other activities as may be required.

Women Lawyers Retreat Planning Committee
The Women Lawyers Retreat Planning Committee is responsible for the planning of the annual Women Lawyers Retreat: developing the program, recruiting speakers, and other activities as may be required.

Board of Governors
Voted in at the annual AGM, the Board of Governors is an advisory committee for governance, leadership, and a vision for the future of the association. The Board works in partnership with Association staff.

Executive Committee
The Executive Committee provides oversight and leadership in periods between meetings of the full Board of Governors.

Finance Committee
The Finance Committee is responsible for overseeing the preparation of the fiscal year budget, the monitoring of revenue and expenses throughout the year to ensure the Association is on track financially. The Committee reviews and recommends approval of the annual audited financial statements. In addition, the Committee has oversight of TLABC's investment portfolio and ensures that the investment policy is executed approriately.

Governance Committee
The Governance Committee is responsible for the oversight of the Association's board operations and governance framework, including rules, bylaws, and related policies and procedures.

HR Committee
The HR Committee is responsible for the ongoing oversight, performance management, development and compensation of the Association's CEO.

Nominations Committee
The Nominations Committee is responsible for presenting a slate of officers to TLABC members to ensure the Association is governed with excellence and vision.The Committee makes recommendations to the Board of Governors regarding worthy candidates for TLABC's bench and bar awards.

Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Committee
The Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) Committee assists the Association in shaping its EDI vision and mission. This framework will be the foundational tool that the Association will use to intentionally promote diversity, equality and inclusion through awareness, active learning and growth, while continuously striving to improve accountability measures.

Litigation Oversight Committee
The Litigation Oversight Committee, chaired by the TLABC President, identifies and/or reviews submissions from TLABC members on litigation the TLABC may want to fund to advance or resist an appeal or seek intervenor status. The Committee provides necessary research and briefs to carry out that function, with an eye to making recommendations to the full board on matters it deems the association should support.

Political Outreach Committee
The Political Outreach Committee leads and supports TLABC’s advocacy and government relations efforts by providing strategic insight and taking an active role in engaging and mobilizing members in political advocacy and provincial election activities.
