About the Course:
The Up Your Game Family Law series kicks off with A Primer on Parenting Plans. Geared towards those in their early years of or exploring family law, and those looking for a refresher or update, each session will be interactive to allow for in-depth learning. Registration space will be limited.
A panel of presenters will take registrants through the process of creating a effective parenting plan for your client.
About the Speakers:
Ellen Shapiro MA RCC DIPC is an individual, child and family therapist who has worked in the counselling field since 1988, when she received her MA in Counselling Psychology (Family Counselling, UBC). She is certified in Conflict Resolution (The Justice Institute of BC), and has extensive background in child development from her previous career in Early Childhood Education. Ellen has a long-time specialty in the field of family transitions. She works in the collaborative approach as a Child Specialist and Divorce Coach, is a Parenting Co-ordinator, and a trainer in the area of family transitions.
Vanessa Van Sickle has practiced family law since being called to the BC Bar in 1988. Her practice is currently based in South Surrey, BC. She is accredited as a family law mediator and collaborative law practitioner; a senior subject editor for JP Boyd on Family Law. Vanessa is actively involved in TLABC as a member of the family law committee. Vanessa has also served as an elected member of the Canadian Bar Association - BC Branch Provincial Council, and has lectured for the Law Society of BC professional legal training course. She has appeared at all three levels of court in BC: Provincial, Supreme, and the Court of Appeal.
Julia Hibbard focuses her practice exclusively on family law, an area in which she has many years of experience. Julia was born and raised in Vancouver. She received her undergraduate degree in 1998 from Bishop’s University. She studied law in California, and received her law degree in 2003. She sat for and was called to the California Bar in 2003. When she returned to Vancouver, she articled with a boutique litigation firm and was called to the British Columbia Bar in 2008.
Julia is an experienced litigator who has appeared at all levels of court in the province. In addition to this litigation experience, Julia is a certified Family Law Mediator, accredited by the Law Society of British Columbia, and a member of the Collaborative Divorce Vancouver practice group. Julia accepts files for litigation, mediation and Collaborative practice and tailors her approach to her files depending on the needs of her clients.
Geeta Gill is with Connect Family law and formerly with Hamilton Fabbro. She has been practicing since 2004.
Geeta is a member of the B.C. Parenting Coordinators Roster Society and recently completed a two-year term on its board of directors. In addition, Geeta is a previous author of updates for the Continuing Legal Education Society of BC’s Family Law Practice Manual and has been a member of the Practice Manual’s editorial board.
