ABOUT THE COURSE:
A dedicated session on sexual-assault trials provides guidance on trauma-informed advocacy, mounting a defence without relying on myths and stereotypes, cross-examining complainants without alienating the jury, and navigating the unique dynamics of these high-stakes cases.
ABOUT THE SPEAKERS:
Mark Nohra is a seasoned trial lawyer with extensive experience handling complex, high-profile litigation, including matters arising in politically sensitive contexts. Mark is widely experienced in the defence of high-profile sexual assault cases — a sensitive, increasingly nuanced and multifaceted area of law — routinely trying these cases in front of a jury.
Chantal Paquette is a Vancouver-based criminal defence trial lawyer whose practice is defined by courtroom advocacy. She started her training in criminal law in 2005 and has spent the past decade practising exclusively in criminal law. Since her call to the bar, she has built a practice grounded in trials, regularly conducting judge-alone and jury trials across a broad range of serious criminal charges.
