About the Webinar Series:
The TLABC Criminal Jury Trial Series offers a four‑part, practical look at defence advocacy in British Columbia jury trials. Across 90‑minute sessions, leading practitioners explore the full lifecycle of a jury case: from jury selection to crafting persuasive trial narratives, executing effective direct- and cross‑examinations, managing prejudicial evidence, and advocating for defence-friendly jury charges. The series also tackles critical issues such as issues with juror questions or misconduct, mistrial strategies, and building an appeal‑ready record. A dedicated session on sexual‑assault trials provides guidance on trauma‑informed advocacy, mounting a defence without relying on myths and stereotypes, handling expert and social context evidence, and navigating the unique dynamics of these high‑stakes cases.
Participants may register for the entire four-part series or à la carte for individual sessions. As the series will mirror the progression of a trial, with each session building on the foundations established in previous sessions, registration for the full series is encouraged. However, each session is designed to stand-alone, so participants can select topics of particular interest. All the webinars will be recorded and made available to registrants should scheduling issues arise with the live presentation.
