Over the past couple of years, the Ministry has conducted significant public engagement on the Phase 2 issues. They conducted in-person and virtual dialogue and information sessions with Indigenous peoples, the anti-violence community, people with disabilities, immigrants and refugees and youth with lived experience with these family law issues. TLABC was asked to provide feedback during the public consultation.

After reviewing the public engagement feedback and analyzing the issues raised on the Phase 2 topics, they have now developed the Policy Intentions Paper summarizing some of the policy changes that are intended to be proposed to the FLA. It is anticipated that the recommendation of amendments to the FLA will take place in the spring 2026 legislative session, followed by amendments to the regulations.
